Communication Strategic Center (StraComm) is generally serving as a presenter or a link to outside parties or stake holders of the University, it explains University goals, roles and missions in accordance with USIM KRA1 and KRA2 which were outlined by the Vice Chancellor late 2010 USIM annual report that focuses at USIM image, branding as well as USIM promotion not only locally but also internationally.
During early USIM establishment (formerly known as KUIM) 1999, the role of this unit was comprehensive; it was responsible for various aspects including financial and human resources for the whole University administration issues.
Briefly, as early as 2000, a special unit for implementation of public relations and corporate functions was not yet established, instead, it was known in the organization chart at the time, as the Corporate Relations Unit which was holistically performing all duties in the Chancellery Department.
In February 2002, the Public Relations Unit was first established. At the same time, another unit of called Corporate Relations and International Unit was created to handle the international and corporate relations including MoUs. In line with KUIM developments which had entered the four year setup and looking at interests of the two units, the Corporate Relations and International Unit (UPKA) was established in mid-2003.
In April 2007, the Corporate Relations and International Center was renamed the Center for Strategic Development and Corporate Relations (PPSHK) under the Department of Chancellery, headed by the PPSHK Director. Thus, there ware three sub-units under PPSHK; Public Relations Unit, Quality Management Unit and Consultation Bureau that generally performed the PPSHK roles and functions. Then, the Director of Public Relations Unit was also situated in PPSHK until December 2007.
Due to USIM organizational restructuring and for the sake of USIM KRAs achievements that was outlined by the Second Vice-Chancellor Y. Bhg. Professor Dato' Dr. Muhamad Muda, PPSHK was divided into the Centre of Corporate Planning, Quality Management and Corporate Communications Unit.
Currently, the Corporate Communications Unit has been restructured to Corporate Communications and International Relations or BKKPA since January 1, 2011.
In 2013, vice chancellor third USIM was appointed. BKKPA been elevated level and broken down into two more focused structure namely Strategic Communication Center and International Relation Center. Strategic Communications Center or the more recognizable as StraComm start 1 February 2013 so it is now.
