At the beginning of the establishment of USIM (formerly known as KUIM) in 1999, there was a huge challenge. As the 12th public university and a public University College established at that time, the University had to go through a challenging foundational phase since it had limited financial and human resources to carry out the administration functions of the University as a whole.

As the University operated officially with the intake of the first batch of students in 2000, USIM had yet to set up a unit dedicated to carrying out public and corporate relations functions. What was established in the early organization of the Chancellory Department at that time was a unit known as the Corporate Relations Unit which performed only administrative duties.

In February 2002, the Public Relations Unit was set up and in the same year the Corporate and International Relations Unit was established to handle the University’s international and corporate affairs such as the MoU and MoA. In line with the development of USIM which had been established for 4 years and since it was important for these two units to move forward, restructuring was done and hence the Corporate and International Relations Unit (UPKA) was established in mid-2003.

In April 2007, UPKA was restructured again as KUIM was upgraded to USIM beginning 1 February 2007. The new department known as the Center for Strategic Development and Corporate Relations (PPSHK) was still part of the administrative entity of the Chancellory Department like its early establishment.

PPSHK was headed by a Director with 3 sub units namely Public Relations Unit, Quality Management Unit and Consultation Bureau. At that time a Public Relations Unit Director was also stationed at PPSHK until December 2007.

The development and function of this department were constantly being enhanced by the University to ensure that it was always an effective USIM liaison. In line with the restructuring of USIM’s Main Management and the focus of the University’s development that is based on Six (6) USIM KRA as outlined by USIM’s Second Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Muda, PPSHK was split into two separate entities namely Corporate Planning and Quality Management Center and Corporate Communications Unit (UKK).

UKK continued to perform its functions well and as its role expanded, UKK was upgraded to become a Responsible Center (PTJ) under the name of Corporate Communication and International Relations Division or BKKPA effective January 1, 2011.

BIRTH OF STRACOMM

USIM continues to move forward to become a glorious Islamic-based Higher Learning Institution through the effective integration of Aqli and Naqli knowledges. In December 2012, USIM’s Third Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Professor. Dato’ Dr. Asma Ismail was appointed. Her precise view on the university’s excellence demands the shifting paradigm of the people’s thinking and actions. Hence, on February 1, 2013, BKKPA was transformed into Pusat Komunikasi Strategik (Strategic Communication Centre)  and the International Relations Centre (PPA).

Through the 2013 New Year’s Mandate Event, YBhg. Vice-Chancellor officially announced the establishment of Pusat Komunikasi Strategik or Strategic Communication Centre which is branded as StraComm.
